United Way Backpack Attack at VULTEC
-

This morning several volunteers and students are pitching in for United Way of Hendrick’s County Backpack Attack.
Each and every year, United Way of Central Indiana in Hendricks County rallies together a team of outstanding companies and churches to collect school supplies for children from low income families. Back-to-school time is a bank buster for families, second only to Christmas. In our county, just over twenty percent of public school children qualify for free and reduced lunches.
All BackPack Attack supplies collected are counted, sorted by Hendricks County volunteers and distributed to all Hendricks County public elementary schools. Our partner companies, civic groups, faith based organizations and individuals want kids to start school on an equal footing with their peers.

Understanding the “Big Picture”
-

Today (7/9/12) we are processing orders for the 1st books program. The process is the same as what employers are doing in their operations and it helps us make a great teaching point. What they process today has the greatest impact on the supply chain.
Most of you might know about our partnership with the First Book program but for those who do not:
“First Book provides access to new books for children in need.
To date, First Book has distributed more than 90 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families throughout the United States and Canada. First Book is transforming the lives of children in need and elevating the quality of education by making new, high-quality books available on an ongoing basis.”
When VULTEC opened we quadrupled FirstBook.org’s warehouse and processing power. It also gives us to instill pride in our students works as they know that what they process will be a needy child’s first book. The lasting impact of this can not be measured, both in the children and our students.
